Since 1980, Hillsboro Aviation has trained thousands of pilots, and our graduates fly for companies worldwide. We are one of the largest combined airplane and helicopter training schools in the U.S. Hillsboro Aviation is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved flight school which allows us to conduct flight training under Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 141 and Part 61. We also approved by the Veterans Administration and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
Hillsboro Aviation is located in the beautiful northwestern United States near Portland, Oregon at the Portland-Hillsboro and Portland-Troutdale airports. Hillsboro and Troutdale are close to downtown Portland, the ocean and the mountains. Our region experiences many types of weather conditions and has diverse terrain, which is why our graduates excel as pilots after they leave our school. Learning to fly in challenging weather and terrain is a critical part of becoming a well-rounded helicopter pilot. This experience will prepare you for the rest of your career.
Our helicopter flight school has 33 helicopters, and our training fleet is primarily made up of Robinson and Bell helicopters. The models include Robinson R22, Robinson R44, Schweizer 300CB, Bell JetRanger, Bell LongRanger, Bell 407 and Bell 205. We also train our students on the latest flight simulation technology, and our flight simulators are an integral part of our helicopter pilot training program. Our helicopter lessons include private, instrument, commercial, certified flight instructor and airline transport pilot certifications. We also offer specialty training such as external load and mountain flying courses to help prepare our students for the next step in their careers.
Our airplane flight school has 34 airplanes, including models such as the Cessna 152, Cessna 162, Cessna 172, Cessna 206, Piper Seminole and Hawker Beechcraft King Air C90. In addition to our fleet of airplanes, we also use flight training devices to provide additional training. Our Frasca 142, Frasca TruFlite and Redbird FMX flight simulators take on the characteristics of a single-engine airplane with standard gauges, a single-engine airplane with a glass cockpit or a twin-engine airplane with advanced avionics. Our airplane lessons include private, instrument, commercial, multi-engine, certified flight instructor, certified flight instructor instrument, multi-engine instructor and airline transport pilot certifications.
Our aircraft are maintained to the highest standards, and our instructors are dedicated to providing the highest quality instruction available. Students receive individualized instruction in a one-on-one environment with their instructors. Unlike many schools, Hillsboro Aviation allows our students to pay as you go for their flight training, which means they are not required to deposit money into their accounts prior to beginning their training. We are also in the unique position of offering financing to qualified students. Loan amounts for up to the total flight training program cost are available through Wells Fargo.
Hillsboro Aviation partners with Portland Community College (PCC) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Portland Center to offer two and four-year aviation degree programs providing our students the opportunity to take this additional step in their education.
