Hillsboro Aviation Awarded Varco Pruden’s “Best of Category” for Transportation

Hillsboro Aviation has received the 2017 Varco Pruden Hall of Fame “Best of Category” award for transportation. The national award is given by Varco Pruden, one of the nation’s leading suppliers of steel building frames, and recognizes excellence in design, quality of construction, green sustainability, and unique use of Varco Pruden products in building solutions.

Hillsboro Aviation unveiled its state-of-the-art headquarters at the Portland-Hillsboro Airport in 2016. Founded in 1980, the company boasts a contemporary 51,000 square foot FBO facility with four acres of ramp space to accommodate transient needs, including a 32,000 square foot hangar for its maintenance, avionics, parts sales, and charter fleet operations. Hillsboro Aviation also welcomes business to its facility with aircraft sales and corporate offices for lease.

“We are honored to be recognized as “Best in Class” for the category of transportation by Varco Pruden,” said Max Lyons, Hillsboro Aviation owner and president. “Our new facility is a milestone of 37 years in business. We promise an unparalleled customer service experience and needed our building to reflect the high level of quality, care, and attention to detail that defines the Hillsboro Aviation brand.”

The building was built by Centrex Construction, a local and family-owned construction firm specializing in aviation-related projects, with architectural design by Aron Faegre and Associates and interior design by Kathy Wharton and Associates. Designed to reflect the Pacific Northwest, the building features Douglas fir finishes and floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the surrounding area. It was also built to accommodate environmentally friendly designs, including solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and LED lighting.

“Our experience with Centrex Construction, Aron Faegre, and Kathy Wharton was top-notch,” said Ryan McCartney, general manager of Hillsboro Aviation. “We could not have hoped for better partners to design and construct our headquarters and foundation for the next 37 years.”

  1. This is a latter comment as I have just joined the newsletter. After living here for 21 yeas near our Airport, I have often wondered what goes on there. I would love to see the front of our port look as wonderful and inviting as the pictures portrayed of the back and inside. An airport is a big view into the city it represents. Are there plans for renewing the front and passenger area of our airport? I have only rented cars and retrieved passengers. The employees are always friendly and helpful.
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Tina,

I believe you may have us confused with the Portland-Hillsboro Airport, which is run by the Port of Portland. We are a private aviation company that leases land from the Port, and are located on the north end of the Hillsboro airport. We do not have anything to do with the Port’s buildings.

      Thanks!
