Dan Pimentel, Airplanista Aviation Blog
My wife and I were up in Portland visiting our granddaughter who is 4 1/2 years old. We had her for the day and she had mentioned "going to watch the airplanes take off and land" after telling me point blank that she was "going to fly Katy some day all by herself." (Katy is our 235). Then she told me she LOVES helicopters and had never seen one up close. So I told her I know of a place (your school) that had helicopters, and maybe they would let her see one.
I called your dispatch office and Zack Robinson said to come on out. Our visit started with a very warm and friendly welcome at the FBO receptionist, who made Caitlin feel special. And then Zack arrived and again welcomed her being very professional and courteous. He led us outside and let her sit in one of your school's R22s and she had a blast! We also went upstairs to the student lounge and let her watch the traffic for a while.
I was so impressed by your school and FBO's welcome to her. Thank you to everyone there who made a little girl's (and future pilot's) day.
New Cessna Aircraft Owner 2013
“ … thanks for all the extra effort on this sale. I know this one took way more than the usual handling and I appreciate all your efforts…”
Satisfied Cessna Skycatcher Aircraft Sales Customer
I just completed the purchase of a Cessna 162 Skycatcher. During the transaction, I encountered a group of professionals both within the direct Textron/Cessna organization and your outside support and sales system for which you can truly be proud. Despite my propensity to live up to my reputation, at every turn this group stepped up to complete the transaction with exemplary communications, integrity and accommodation. I was out of the country during a large chunk of the time it took to complete the deal. Never the less, even with several technical glitches, they were able to get it done. The extra mile - nay I should say miles - these individuals went to make things happen made even me feel a little guilty. I want to offer my express thanks to you and more particularly to your team in the trenches:
- Brett Palmero - Cessna NW Business Development
- Luis Acosta - Cessna Demo Pilot
- Jim Roth - Cessna Regional Sales Director
- Tom Dalquist - Hillsboro Aviation, Hillsboro, OR (A very special thank you and high five to Tom.)
- Giancarlo Newsome - Hillsboro Aviation, Hillsboro, OR
- Mike Pickett - PAVCO Aviation, Tacoma Narrows Airport

The flight service that Hillsboro Aviation provided for our forest tour today was simply incredible. Your crew was very professional and exceeded our expectations.
Thank you very much and your service which added significantly to our ability to have a successful event today. It's a pleasure doing business with you and your company. Please share our appreciation with everyone involved.

Thank you very much for the excellent service yesterday. Your company was well represented and made a seemingly logistical nightmare appear flawless. Nuno and Mike did an incredible job flying and were a pleasure to work with. Cordell and the other loader coordinated the tour of over 60 people inside our time window. The helicopter ride was the highlight of the day for those of our guests who participated. I cannot emphasize enough how well your crew performed yesterday. I look forward to working with your company in the future.
Chris Ryan, Chris Ryan Photography
I was hired yesterday by a NY publication to make some aerial photos of an area near Sheridan, Ore. I called Hillsboro Aviation, got a good quote, and booked the flight. I showed up on schedule today and was greeted and welcomed by the staff there immediately... no standing around here. I made a last minute check of shot lists and art direction while my pilot thoroughly checked the aircraft. Once checked and secure, the pilot, Mary, shook my hand firmly, showed me how to secure my gear (with door removed), and we were off to business. Mary piloted the craft confidently to our pre-determined location. I requested a couple circles to get the photos I was after, and Mary steered the heli in the exact directions that I needed.
All said and done, successful photos and all, when we hit the tarmac I was surprised to find that the rate came in lower than the quote they originally gave me for the flight. All of that has a very significant influence on whom I'll trust, and most certainly hire, for my next aerial assignment.
Thanks for the solid flight, and top-notch service Hillsboro Aviation!! See you again soon!!!
Rob Mount, EMS Helicopter Pilot
Ten minutes into his first helicopter flight and Rob Mount was hooked. Today he pilots life-flight rescue, helping save lives as he pursues his passion for flying. “In my old job, I needed more challenge and excitement. Well I got it.
“After deciding to pursue a dream as a helicopter pilot, I investigated a number of flight schools. Hillsboro offered the best flying environment – varied terrain and weather conditions – and folks who really take a personal interest in you.”
Rob says there has never been a better time to learn to fly helicopters. “Many helicopter pilots are retiring and that’s creating a shortage, so now is a great time to begin a career as a helicopter pilot. If they are anything like me, they’ll feel so lucky – it’s almost like being drafted into the NFL.”
Howard H.F. Ho, International Airline Pilot
Howard Ho wanted to be an airline pilot, but since Taiwan does not have any flight schools he knew he would have to travel across the world if he was going to achieve his dream. After doing extensive research, Howard decided to travel from his home in Taiwan to Hillsboro, Oregon in the United States. “I learned they were experienced in training international students, and they had a great reputation with airlines around the world.”
Now, living his dream flying Boeing 747s on international routes for a major airline Howard still remembers his roots, “I have great memories of my time spent in Hillsboro learning to become a commercial pilot. In addition to preparing me for a career in aviation, I also made many life long friendships.”
Markus Grutke, Helicopter Pilot
It's a long way from Germany, but coming all that distance to become a helicopter pilot in Hillsboro made perfect sense to Markus.
"There were so many desirable reasons to learn to fly in Hillsboro. It was a great family of people and very personalized."
Today, Markus flies along the Gulf Coast transporting people and materials to petroleum platforms at sea and instructing new pilots with the company.
"My friends back in Germany know how fond I am of the people at the school and how much I recommend it for future pilots. I benefited so much from the personalized time and was able to accrue so many flight hours. When you finish, you often go straight into aviation like I did – and look at me today – I have the best office in the world."
Lauren Brown, Airline Pilot
As one of the growing number of women who have earned a place on the flight deck, Lauren is a role model for women and men of all ages.
“Out of the blue, a woman who flew for the WACs in World War II came up and cheered for me. How cool is that?”
As a pilot for a regional airline, she has some advice for those who want to learn to fly.
“Becoming a pilot is a challenge. The great thing about it is you’ll make lots of friends along the way who are eager to help you. Many of those friends will be the staff and instructors, like those in Hillsboro. As they did with me, they will nurture your talent for flying, all the while giving you the assistance you need to meet your goals. The personality at the school is the right combination of professionalism and a friendly learning environment.”
