Max comes from a fourth-generation lumber family, and his first involvement with the helicopter industry came in 1974 as a ground crew member for a Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane. His flying career began when he enrolled in Hillsboro Aviation’s helicopter pilot program. In 1988, Hillsboro Aviation hired Max as a helicopter instructor and the manager of its foreign student pilot program. Later, Max became a charter pilot flying turbine helicopters for various operations. In 1992, he was promoted to general manager responsible for the company's day-to-day operations. After leading the company for seven years as its general manager, Max purchased Hillsboro Aviation and became its president and CEO. Max is a commercial helicopter pilot and an instrument-rated, multi-engine airplane pilot. He served as the Chairman of the Board for Helicopter Association International Board of Directors in 2015/2016 and is a former member of the Portland Community College Foundation Board of Directors.

Ryan’s management experience began in 1996 in the commercial construction industry. His passion for aviation prompted a career change and he landed at Hillsboro Aviation in 2006 as Helicopter Program Manager. Since then Ryan has also held the titles of Chief Instructor, School Director, Director of Sales and Service, and General Manager.  Ryan is a commercial helicopter pilot and CFII with experience in charter operations.

John is a commercially-rated airplane pilot who holds a degree in aviation maintenance. He started at Hillsboro Aviation in January of 2009 running one of its largest flight school programs and then transitioned into our sales and service division to take over management of the parts department. In 2016, John was promoted to Director of Sales & Service managing all maintenance, avionics, and parts sales operations. John has over 10 years of aviation management experience and is focused on supporting our sales and service efforts and providing the best customer experience.

Franz graduated from the University of Bayreuth in Germany with a degree in business and sport administration before pursuing his career as a helicopter pilot. In 1999, he graduated in 1999 from Hillsboro Aviation’s helicopter training program. Franz held the position as Part 141 Chief Flight Instructor for several years before moving into a utility line pilot position with Hillsboro Aviation. In 2006, he accepted the position of contract and charter department manager which included the responsibilities of the Director of Operations.

Ryan joined the Hillsboro Aviation team as Director of Business Development in 2017 overseeing business development for the contract and charter and aircraft sales and management divisions. His previous experience includes Director of Operations at Life Flight Network, Lead Pilot at Air Methods Corporation, and Training and Standardization Officer in the Air Rescue Division at Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Ryan’s 17 years of industry experience include flying Part 135 operations for rotor and fixed aircraft. He holds Airline Transport Pilot helicopter, Airline Transport Pilot multi-engine fixed wing, Airline Transport Pilot single engine, and Certified Flight Instructor helicopter certifications; a US Coast Guard Master Captains License 200 Ton; a Fire Fighting Certification; and a National Registry EMT Certificate.

Ryan is married with two daughters and enjoys training for triathlons and spending time with his family in his free time.

Rekha joined Hillsboro Aviation as the Marketing Manager in 2015. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and history from Loyola Marymount University and is a private fixed-wing pilot. Prior to serving in her current position, Rekha worked as dispatcher, technical writer, and assistant to the general manager for Hillsboro Aviation. Rekha is responsible for managing and supporting marketing initiatives for each division of the company.
